Nick Herron

Director

Nick Herron has over 35 years building and construction industry experience, and is a Director of Herron Coorey. He is a past President of the Queensland Master Builders Association (QMBA),  member of the QMBA Construction Sector Committee, QMBA Electoral College, and former Board Member of Master Builders Australia.

Passionate about the betterment of the Construction Industry, Nick is also a director of Construction Industry Protection Limited (CIPS), The Building Employees Redundancy Trust (BERT), Building Employees Welfare Trust (BEWT) and the Queensland Construction Training Fund (QCTF). Nick is also a Board Director of Brigidine College at Indooroopilly, a member of the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Catholic University and sits on the State Council of the St Vincent de Paul Society of Queensland.

After leaving school at Marist College Ashgrove, Nick initially studied law for two years at the Queensland Institute of Technology (now the Queensland University of Technology, or QUT), but with an increasing interest in business, building, design and construction, he shifted the focus of his studies and graduated from QIT with a Bachelor of Business Management, followed by two years of a Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management), and then obtained a Graduate Diploma in Project Management, and his Open Builders Licence.

Concurrent to the last two years of his University studies, Nick worked as a Building Cadet and Contracts Administrator with Jennings Construction, where he was able to apply the technical skills and theoretical knowledge gained through study in a practical environment.

His first role out of University was as a Project Manager with Fletcher Construction Australia, where he worked for two years. At Fletcher, Nick was involved in projects including Broadway on the Mall and the redevelopment of Southbank Parklands.

Nick then moved on to the role of Construction Manager at The University of New England in Armidale, NSW, where he spent three years overseeing the design and construction of the School of Nursing and The Cooperative Research Centre for Cattle and Beef (CRC).

He returned to Queensland as the State Manager of Badge Constructions, where his achievements included overseeing the growth and development of the business from an initial turnover of less than $1m pa to over $40m pa. After seven years at Badge, Nick and David established Herron Coorey Building Contractors.

Its core business derives from the construction of buildings that owners intend to operate from, with individual project values up to $30m. With a focus on commercial construction and medium sized non-residential construction, Herron Coorey is also responsible for the construction of a considerable number of projects within the education sector, having built over 250 schools in the last two decades. Experience includes the development of a number of private residences, and extends to hotels, shop fit-outs and commercialrenovations.

Now in its 21st year, Herron Coorey has an impeccable reputation for acting with integrity in all relationships, and completing projects on time, and on budget.

Outside of work, Nick is involved in a number of community and charitable initiatives. One of seven construction industry professionals who make up an ownership consortium of the Hidden Creek Winery in Ballandean, QLD, Nick also participates in the annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout, is a member of the St Vincent de Paul Major Projects Committee, and is a bad but enthusiastic surfer which he blames on a dodgy knee that refuses to properly mend following decades of repeated mishaps on rollerblades, skateboards, snowski’s, motorcycles and the football field.
