OVERVIEW
Herron Coorey was engaged to complete the redevelopment and restoration of the heritage-listed Red Hill Cinemas. Its later adoption as a skate park was voided by the devastation of fire in 2002 resulting in its abandonment.
HOW WE HELPED
We brought to life our client’s vision and The Red Hill Cinema was reborn, ensuring the existing building maintained as much of its original structure and cultural heritage as possible.
The renewed building contains five cinema rooms, including four Gold Room theatres with a layout for 70 seats, and one room including seats for 160 patrons. Herron Coorey worked to maintain the building’s graffiti work internally and externally, paying homage to its many layers of its heritage.
The completion of this project was valued at $2.6m, and took a duration of 40 weeks. The project was finished in 2019.
Herron Coorey was joined by the architects at JDA Co., and the structural engineers at Optimum Structures to give one of Brisbane’s iconic buildings a new direction.
